How to Design Worship Screens for the Lent

Lent is a wonderfully deep time of year for the church. It is important to prepare for it and design worship screens to strengthen the worship experience.  So how do you do that?

I would first meet with the Pastor. Ask the Pastor what take away do they want each person to leave with each Sunday in Lent. Listen carefully to that answer. Take some time to think of ways to visualize that theme.  Your answer might surprise you – maybe it’s a meditative candle, maybe be it’s a rainbow coming out of a storm, maybe be it’s a person praying, maybe… take time to pray and see what images the holy spirit brings to you.

After you have an idea where you are heading, meet with the music director. Often the music director has chosen a song or musical piece to do every week to build the Lenten theme. Listen to that song – you can do this for free on Youtube – but don’t look at the video – just listen to the music/song. God has called you to this position and has or will give you the gifts to fulfill it for your church. Shut your eyes and listen to the music and see what images come to mind. 

Then create a few slides for the Lenten journey – one for songs sung each week, one for the bible verse, one for the welcome slide.  See how the Lent season unfolds – if something does not seem to work - then feel free to change it.  May your Lenten journey be full of growth and vision ~God bless.
